5 Things to Consider When Choosing Locations for Your Digital Screens

You know the adage about location when it comes to real estate. Well, location also matters with Visual Communications. So, where should you place screens and what should you consider?

Here are five things to consider when choosing locations for your digital screens:

  1. Consider the type of content you want to display.

When choosing locations for your screens, you must know the type of content you want to display. In other words, how will the screens be used? Do you want visitors to be able to touch the screens, such as with interactive kiosks or wayfinding maps? Does the information need to be visible to a lot of people? Will the content include audio? All three instances require different types of screens and the placement of those screens is critical.

Types of use cases include:

 

  1. Consider the building.

When choosing locations for digital signage, consider the building itself and who is going to see the information. For instance, if it’s an arena, hotel or airport, you can expect thousands of people to see and use the screens on any given day. A video wall in a busy mall will have a much bigger impact than a smaller screen that could easily be missed by a large crowd. On the other hand, a small business or store might need something that won’t be as intrusive when communicating with customers.

Also, keep in mind that every type of building requires specific digital signage applications, whether it’s a stadium, corporate headquarters, healthcare facility, college campus, airport, shopping mall, hotel or casino or manufacturing facility.

 

  1. Consider the traffic flow.

Make sure to place digital signage where the most people are likely to see the screens. In other words, high traffic areas. It might seem easier to mount a screen on a wall that already had network cables, but if that wall isn't visible, it won’t do you much good. The best rule is to “be where your audience will be.” If you can mount screens in places where traffic tends to linger, even better, as you can display multiple announcements and promotions.

Popular places for screens include:

  • Lobbies
  • Lounges
  • Information desks
  • Cafeterias and food courts
  • Elevator waiting areas

 

  1. Consider accessibility and placement.

You want to make sure your screens are visible to your audience, whether it’s customers in a mall, visitors at a resort or your employees. Avoid mounting screens high up or near the ceiling, unless you’re implementing a large-scale video wall and you want the content to be visible from far away.

 

  1. Consider the number of screens required.

You must also consider how many locations your screens will be serving. For a large bank or corporation, you might want to display information in all of your satellite offices or branches. You might also want to customize the information according to the needs of each location.
