Hospitality Digital Signage

The Marriott Courtyard GoBoard

Four Winds Interactive (FWi) and USA TODAY partnered on a digital sign initiative that brought an unprecedented digital concierge to each new and redesigned lobby in the Courtyard by Marriott brand. Debuting late last year as a prototype, the Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™ is an interactive digital information center for guests, showcasing live news from USA TODAY, and running off of the FWi software platform. Key to the system's success, the Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™ gives the user control over the output on the screen, making it an excellent tool to customize offerings based on guest preferences.

The Marriott Courtyard Digital Signage System
Now available in approximately 300 hotels, Courtyard® expects to consistently rollout the Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™ and lobby redesign throughout its properties. Most recently, this innovation was included as part of the new 136-room Courtyard Edmonton West in Edmonton, Alberta. Located next to the welcome podiums in the new Courtyard lobby, this Marriott Courtyard digital signage is typically displayed on a 55-57" LCD touch screen and is the technological centerpiece of the lobby redesign.

This Marriott Courtyard digital signage system supports the various types of content being displayed on the screen: Live USA TODAY news, money, sports, life, and scores serve as the focal point of the Marriott Courtyard digital sign system. Along with the 3-day weather forecast, live stock market quotes, airport delays, Microsoft's Virtual Earth, local events, and nearby restaurants, making this digital sign board the ideal tool for the business traveler who is unfamiliar with the local surroundings. What's more, the Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™ encourages guests to not only view but also interact with this incredible information interface.

The Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™…Awards and Media Recognition
The Marriott Courtyard GoBoard™ has been so well received, it's making waves in the interactive signage and hospitality industries. In 2010, the Hotel Technology Forum gave the project its prestigious Hotel Visionary Award, recognizing the "…innovation in responding to travelers' needs." Since then, the project has been highlighted in this Hotel News Resource article. Perhaps, most significantly, this Microsoft study shows that "since completing the lobby redesign and deploying the GoBoard, Courtyard has found that hotel staff interact with guests more easily and report a 10 percent rise in guest satisfaction scores and a 27 percent increase in intent-to-return scores. The comprehensive redesign, including the GoBoard, has helped Courtyard increase market share by 7.5 percent since deployment."
