Education Digital Signage
School Signage Design
At education institutions, both new construction and significant renovation plans frequently call for a review of the existing information and messaging displays. And for good reason. School signage is an incredibly important component for institutions to communicate with students, family members, and visitors. Too many of these institutions are missing out on opportunities to provide better information about student activities, recent achievements, learning initiatives, and long-term goals. Moreover, some display messages can help boost attendance or even make calls to volunteer at upcoming events. To improve the value and services of these displays, however, savvy planning and implementation of school signage is imperative.
Digital School Signage
Not all projects involve a comprehensive overhaul of the school grounds, interiors, and display installations. Administrators may very well identify a single sign installation that isn't carrying its weight. Oftentimes, the solution is to replace this installation with a dynamic digital screen.
Likely the most common example is the main outdoor marquee. By opting for a digital marquee and reader board, administrators can effectively manage daily messages with timely information, or even hourly messages such as providing basic morning and afternoon announcements for those parents who pick their children up from school. The best part is that these solutions allow for the management of information and messaging with negligible operating costs.
A donor wall is another great example of a single project that offers huge upside when a dynamic display is used. Digital donor wall content does a significantly better job of recognizing financial contributors and/or volunteers, which in turn helps donor recruitment. This is a common component of university signs, but more and more primary and secondary institutions are also starting to use this strategy to add a much needed source of revenue for their institutions.
The Design Process
There are a few things you need to know about school signage design. Generally speaking, the primary goal is to provide better information services to key audiences both inside and outside the school. Yet, signs also present a palpable opportunity to better brand the school, and this is no small thing. Naturally, universities, private institutions, and semi-private schools have the most to gain by improving their brand and reputation with the community. However, even public school districts, right down to the elementary level, shouldn't ignore branding and its effects on public opinion. After all, local taxpayers frequently provide a key source of funding through school levies. Creating a sense that these tax dollars aren't going to waste may be the difference in gaining a majority of voters willing to approve much-needed levies.
