FWi FAQ

What is the difference between sign and signage?

The difference between sign and signage is largely one of scope. Whereas a digital sign refers to a single display, digital signage may refer to the design, implementation, and operation of entire digital sign systems. Likewise, digital signage includes many display installations that are not typically considered signs, such as kiosks and various built-in or TV-like displays. Indeed, aside the nuanced meaning of the two terms, understanding the difference between sign and signage also helps people appreciate that much goes into the implementation of these visual displays. From dynamic content capabilities to interactive touch screen displays, modern signage hardly resembles the conventional sign boards of the previous generation.
